Building a Klingon K'vort cruiser

SECTION 4 :- Warp drive engines

No alterations to the instructions provided but be careful with the amount of glue you use when gluing in the red inserts so you do not get glue on them. The joins for both engines were not very good so some filler was needed.

When it came to gluing the engines to the hull I used superglue to get the parts to set in the correct angle then used plastic glue to fill in the gaps.  After this was sanded I still noticed the join was visible, so I used some filler on the joints as well. I sanded all the filler down using varying grades of sanding stick to get a smooth result.

SECTION 5 :- Sub assembly fitting

It is now time to fit the bridge & impulse sub-assemblies to the top of the hull.  Only a small amount of glue is needed to get to sit in place & allow them to dry.

impulse bridge fitted to hull

The battle bridge fits into the front of hull by the means of 4 pegs.  All I did was glue around the edge of the battle bridge & press into place.  I used a small amount of tape at the top and the bottom of the bridge while it was setting.

SECTION 6 :- Painting time

looking at the instructions it says the main colour for the cruiser is a mix of the federal colours FS-34227 & FS-35622.  In the UK we find it hard to get matching paints so the nearest conversion are with Humbrol matt light green (120) & matt pale blue (122) & is a straight mix of 1 part green to 1 part blue.  With leaving the base coat painting till now all I have to do is mask off the small clear red inserts on the warp engines & get out the air brush & give the entire model one good coat.

I allowed it to dry, gave it a light sanding with a very fine grit, washed off the residue & allowed the whole kit to dry. A few hours later I gave the cruiser it's second coat & allowed it to dry.

When the kit has dried I took off the masking tape & touched up any areas using a small brush & the small amount of stirred mix I have left in the jar.  It is now time to fit the remaining  clear red glass at the rear of the hull, on the warp engines & in the bottom of the hull just after the battle bridge.

All that is now needed is to go with the instructions & highlight as many of the panels & windows as you wish.  when dried I put on the decals, but with the paint being a matt surface I did need to to use some matt varnish once the decals had dried.  A small amount of weathering was done to dull down the decals as they are a shade too bright.

I could have followed what a few fellow modellers have done with the base & painted it in the correct colours of the Klingon Empire, but to me it would have drawn my eyes off the model ,so I just used a metallic grey left from one of my car kits.

Well that's all folks....   One new addition to the Klingon battle fleet.
