 "Fenrir:-" Son of Loki
The next generation
The new system has been given the name of "Fenrir". This seems apt to me as he was the son of "Loki", the name of the last system I used, & the new one is a bit smaller.
The system is being built using some of the "Lubic" frame parts I won on ebay for the basic frame & then
finished with some home mods, panels & wiring. The case design is similar to the first but with better cooling for the drives & the panels will be fitted, where possible, inside the channels to make it look better.
Much to my wifes joy, this new system should last me for a long time.
1ST SECTION :-PANEL PAINTING
With using more blue lubic frames, I am carrying on with the same colour theme, so some of the panels are going to have some "treatment", so lets hit the tools & parts.
The front panel off the disc drive was unclipped from the
unit & the LED lenses removed so they would not get sprayed & then sprayed with grey car primer, sanded down, given another coat of primer, re-sanded then two coats of "Poseidon Blue" & left to harden. These were then fitted back in the units & tested to see the still worked.

For the main clear panels that came with the kit, I decided it would be nice to have an unusal "cracked" effect to the paintwork instead of a solid block of colour. I first sprayed them with grey plastic primer, a coat of Black primer was used for the contrast effect. A friend
had told me a way to get the effect by spraying the panels with an "etch primer" quite thick & allowing it to dry. This then "cracked" as it dryed, did not damage the black contrast coat, so all I had to do was spray the panels with "Poseidon Blue" & the job was done.
2ND SECTION :-DIGIDOC PAINTING
The "Digidoc 5" are also going to be sprayed,so lets start with dismantling it.
Firsty remove the sensor & fan connection leads, then unscrew the first printed circuit board which will then pull apart from the display board. The front panel is held in with two more screws & when this is removed just leaves the front panel.
This was masked on both sides over the clear window & the same spraying process for the drives was used. It was then just a case of re-assembling the unit ready to go into the case.
